Multiple Intelligences

Last week we talked about multiple intelligences and learning styles. 

We also learned:

Multiple intelligences is a theory first posited by Harvard developmental psychologist Howard Gardner in 1983. This theory suggests human intelligence can be differentiated into the following modalities: visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, musical-rhythmic, logical-mathematical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, and bodily-kinesthetic. In contrast to other notions of learning capabilities (for example, the concept of a single IQ), the idea behind the theory of multiple intelligences is that people learn in a variety of different ways.

 This is a list that we discussed in class!!

Presentations and Exam

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog, it's a pleasure to have you back here!!

this week we finished the group presentations and did our didactics exam. 

Soad's group talked about the TPR method, was very interesting and they did dynamics!

Alejandra's group talked about the direct method, my group also talked about this topic, it was nice to learned a different point of view, they did activities too!

Genesis group talked about the Silent way method, they did activities related with colors and vowel, they also prepared activities and prizes

William's group talked about the Direct method and they prepared a fun game of charades!

Katia's group talked about the audiolingual method and they did an activity with Katia as a teacher for kids!

Last but not least Fatima's group talked about the GTM method!

We did a review of all the classes and on Thursday we took our test, it was a fun week!

TPR AND SUGGESTOPEDIA

 Hi everyone, welcome to my blog again, hope you are doing well! 

This week we review a little bit about the total physical response and the suggestopedia method. 

Originally developed by James Asher, an American professor of psychology, in the 1960s, Total Physical Response (TPR) is based on the theory that memory is enhanced through association with physical movement.

Total physical response basically focuses on teaching language through physical activity. 

TPR method also has its advantages and disadvantages:

this type of method is carried out with small demonstrations while learning new vocabulary.

Now we will talk a little about suggestopedia, which was the last method we saw in class. 

Suggestopedia is a method of teaching a foreign language, in which students learn quickly by feeling relaxed, interested, and positive.

History.

Suggestopedia  is a language teaching method developed by the Bulgarian psychologist, Georgi Lozanov. The name of Suggestopedia is from the words “suggestion” and “pedagogy.” It is a set of learning recommendations derived from Suggestology, which Lozanov describes as “a science … concerned with systematic study of the nonrational and/or non-conscience influences” that human beings are constantly responding to.

We also had a bunch of activities in classes and learning about the suggestopedia method.

On Thursday, February 22nd we started the group presentations on the methods, and they were very fun and dynamic, my group also presented that day, and we talked about the "direct method".

Silent Way Method

 Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog!!

Today we will talk about the silent way, so we will see a little bit about its history, characteristics and some activities we did in class, join me!

The Silent Way was founded in the early 1970s by the Egyptian mathematician and educator Caleb Gattegno. It is based on the idea that language learning can be enhanced in three main ways: discovery rather than teaching; problem-solving in the target language; the use of physical tools. 

Some of the main principles to keep in mind:

We also saw some of the techniques to be implemented with this method, and we even did some activities.

The sound-color chart technique which consists of every block of color represents a sound in the target language, you can form sentences with this, or even just words. 

Or the teacher's silence, the teacher basically gives just as much help as is necessary and the is silent, in this exercise you depend more on your own knowledge than on the teacher's, he cannot help you even with your mistakes

Oh, We ended the day celebrating Valentine's Day with some friends, we ate some delicious desserts.

fundamental and audiolingual method.

 Hi everyone, once again welcome to my blog, I hope you are doing well!!

On Tuesday, we reviewed in class videos about GTM and direct methods, especially the different techniques that can be used to teach these methods. 

For example, for GTM we saw about reading comprehension, the translation technique, the fill in blank, the complete sentences, and many others, each one of them is very interesting because you can use it and learn more effectively and entertainingly.  

On Thursday we started to see a new method, the audio-lingual method, aka "the army method"

Which focuses, as the name implies, on listening rather than writing and reading. 

 This method, like any other, also has its techniques. 

-the repetition drill

-the substitution drill

-the question and answer drill

-and the transformation drill. 

To practice this method we did a dynamic where we all repeated phrases and sentences, we did it with our teacher as well as with our classmates, it was fun but very confusing because we had to use our memory and that is very difficult sometimes, it was a lot of fun.

GTM and Direct Method

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog again!

In this week's class we reviewed the grammar translation method and are introduced to the direct method. 

This week we learned important points, for example the direct method can also be known as the "natural method"

Another very important point in the "Teaching grammar" is:

GTM= deductively

DM= inductively

We also studied about the concept of "scaffolding" which basically makes an analogy with the stairs, that is, to climb another step you must have climbed one before, and that what you have learned should not be forgotten, on the contrary, you should always go back to the origins. 

The Direct Method was established in Germany and France around 1900 and constrasts with the Grammar Translation Method. 

The main idea of the direct method is that it focuses more on practice, unlike the GTM which is based on grammatical rules. This does not mean that the direct method does not use the grammatical rules, but rather that since it has already learned them with the GTM, it is based on oral interactions, not translating between two languages, etc...

Hello everyone, I'm Mariam, and I'm 22,  I'm in my fifth year of Translation and Interpretation at the Universidad Evangélica de El Salvador. It's a pleasure to meet you!

A little bit about me, I like to watch movies, go out with my friends, read, and watch Formula 1 on weekends, but mostly learn new things, for example, I'm going to start French classes soon. I hope to learn so much in this class!

In this blog, I will be posting all my didactics classes, and everything we will be studying each week.

First week of classes!

On Tuesday, we started by reviewing the material we will use for the whole semester, the activities we will do, and everything related to the subject.

On Thursday, we introduce ourselves to the grammar-translation method, first a bit about their history, their advantages and disadvantages, and how important it is to understand the contexts in which they are used. We learned about the different types of teaching methods.

For example the "silent way" or the "direct method", and how each one is represented, we have not checked them in detail, but in the following sessions, we will be learning more about them.
