Group presentations part II- and last blog!

Well first of all thanks to the teacher Orlando, the subject was quite a journey, I learned a lot, it was dynamic and fun, I hope to see you again next semester to continue learning, take care and continue being a good teacher! ☆馃帎✨

On the other hand, we made presentations about grammar, listening and reading comprehension, and vocabulary in all the levels: basic, intermediate, and advanced.

1. Advanced Grammar by Irene's group

we started warming up with a dance, it was fun because it helped us to pay attention, and then the topic was about the second conditional (if+ past simple,...would+infinitive), We did an exercise and were asked what we would do if we were the president of the country.

2. Reading comprehension intermediate by Celeste's group

for this group's activity we read a story and then played a kahoot to answer questions about the topic, it was fun.

3.  Basic vocabulary by Fatima's group

we played a vocabulary guessing game at the beginning, and then we also played hangman, which was quite funny.

4.  Pronunciation intermediate by Ta铆s group

For this one we had to go over a phonics chart and word pronunciations, the activity consisted of saying tongue twisters, and at the end we played a kahoot which was great, I won in that round!!!!馃憖馃憛馃憦

5. Listening comprehension, my group!!!!馃憚馃挭❤

well we reviewed a little bit about listening topic and then we did two activities, one from chinese whispers and also my partner Andrea read a story and everyone had to answer questions, it was very fun and dynamic (not only because it was my group).

6. Reading comprehension by Genesi's group

In the activity we had to read about the problems of the market and labor exploitation, and then we made a kahoot about what we read.

7. Grammar intermediate by Cindy's group

in the activity we had a past tense verb writing competition, it was fun and full of adrenaline, our group won ofc馃憡馃挭

Group presentantions

Hello everyone, hope you're doing great!!

Last week we started our presentations on the topics studied in class. The topics were: grammar, vocabulary, advanced pronunciation, and listening comprehension.

1. Kedim's group :  Basic grammar for beginners

The exercise consisted of making sentences with words that the team gave us, and I did it with the word "believe".

2. William's group : Vocabulary

House stuff, the game consisted of guessing household objects and thus refreshing our vocabulary knowledge.

3. Marvin's group : Advanced pronunciation

The game was entertaining, it was like a lottery game with words similar to others as we listened to the pronunciations, unfortunately the power went out and we could not finish, but my team won a prize.

4. Daniela's group : Listening comprehension

Basically, the activity of this group was to play a Sia song and try to give our opinion about it, and then we watched a video that was about two actors, and they had a very thick accent, so we could show if we understood that kind of accent and slang.

That's pretty much all, see you soon, take care!!馃憖

Teaching grammar and vocabulary writing

Hello everyone, hope you're doing great!!

This week we have been reviewing receptive skills and productive skills.

Teaching a particular language involves teaching its various skills. The major language skills include: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The first two are referred to as receptive skills, while the last two are known as productive skills.

Receptive skills
  • Listening Skills: This involves the ability to understand spoken language.
  • Reading Skills: This involves the ability to understand written language
Both listening and reading skills are essential components of language comprehension and are developed through exposure, practice, and targeted instruction.

Productive skills

  • Speaking Skills: This involves the ability to produce language orally and communicate effectively with others.
  • Writing Skills: This involves the ability to produce written language effectively.
Both speaking and writing skills are crucial for effective communication in a language. Like receptive skills, productive skills are also developed through practice, feedback, and targeted instruction.

We also learned that there are two ways to learn grammar:

Describing teachers.

Hi everyone, I hope you're doing great!! First, Happy teacher appreciation week teacher Orlando. 馃挮

This week, we did a review about describing teachers and describing learners.

Describing learners =students

Describing teachers= Teachers

One of the things we learned is that, depending on the age, level of educational, learning style and cultural background, each student can be different and unique.

Also, we learned about:

  • Teacher’s role in the classroom
  • As performers (activity-behavior)
  • As an organizer prior a lesson
  • Their rapport (+ or -)
  • As native or non-native speakers
  • As teaching aids (input, gestures)
during the week, we did some activities on vocaroo, and they were very interesting, as it was about answering questions about our teachers and some memories about them.

That's pretty much all, thank you, take care!!☝

Describing learners

Hi, this is our last blog of the registry, it has felt very long but with a lot of learning in between!!

Describing learners

There are many types of learners. These are sectioned by age, for example:

Young Children

  • Those children up to the ages of 9 or 10 learn differently from older children, adolescents, and adults in the following ways:

  • They respond to meaning even if they do not understand individual words.

  • They often learn indirectly rather than directly

  • They need individual attention and approval from the teacher.

  • They are keen to talk about themselves

Adolescent

  • They need approval, but most of the time, from their peers.
  • If they have a good rapport with their teacher, they can be their teacher’s best “defenders” or “advocates”.
  • They are in a constant search for identity and self-esteem.

Adults

  • They can engage with abstract thought.
  • They have expectations about their learning process.
  • They have a whole range of life experiences to draw on.

There also exist:
Learner differences (multiple intelligences, vark)

Motivations & Background

That's it, thank you, see you later people!!
